COLREGs – Part A: General

Part A of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs) establishes the fundamental principles that apply to all vessels in all navigable waters. It defines the scope of the regulations, emphasizes the responsibility of every mariner, and provides key definitions used throughout the COLREGs.

• Rule 1 – Application: Applies to all vessels on the high seas and connected navigable waters.

• Rule 2 – Responsibility: Every master and crew remain responsible for safe seamanship and compliance with the Rules. ‍️
